Cheap Flights to Manaus

Manaus overview

Manaus is a unique city which promises an unmissable holiday in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest? From cultural attractions to virgin forests located nearby, the Brazilian city has no dearth of places to visit. The Teatro Amazonas should be on top of your list of things to see. This opera house features choir performances and musical productions on a regular basis, thus showcasing the city's culture at its finest. The grand Rio Negro palace is an important part of Brazilian history too. Built during the affluent 'Rubber era', this palace has free tour guides who make the visit extremely interesting. As far as natural beauty goes, Manaus offers leafy landscapes, river beaches and waterfalls that guarantee a stunning backdrop to your holiday photos. Those who are more adventurous at heart should go on the rainforest tours starting here. The numerous treks, boat trips, jungle excursions and daring survival tours lend a thrilling edge to your trip. However, be careful of fake guides and cheap "budget tours". Booking through reputed operators who have been approved by the Brazilian Tourism Board is a safer and more rewarding option.

When to fly to Manaus

The temperature remains high at about 30°C throughout the year, and there are only two seasons here - wet and dry. The dry season from June to November is the best time to visit, especially if you want to go for safaris and treks. The Folclorico do Amazonas in June and Boi Manaus in October are colourful festivals involving music, dancing and parades. This further explains why most tourists visit then. Travelling between the rainy months of December and May, however, can get you some great deals since this is the off-season and most outdoor activities are closed. However, with the forests bursting into bloom and rivers swelling to majestic proportions these months have their own charm.

Getting around Manaus

Distances in Manaus are short and among the public transport options available, buses are the cheapest way of getting around. Praça da Matriz is the bus stop that is closest to all the attractions in the city centre, and if you get off here, you can see the sights on foot. Alternatively, you can pre-book taxis, or hire running cabs off the streets though this proves expensive for day-to-day travelling in the city. This way, Manaus gives you enough options to enjoy and explore, no matter what your budget may be.
