When is the best time to fly to Santa Cruz de la Palma?
Aptly known as the Land of Eternal Spring, Tenerife is blessed with year-round warmth, making it an attractive destination whatever the season. The warmest months are July through to September, when the average daily highs come in somewhere around 26 C, but there is little variation from the midday temperatures of January, 21 C. The peak season is May until mid-September, with interest peaking again at Halloween and Easter, but the downtime is equally as good for a beach holiday. Cheap flights can be found between November and April, making this an ideal time of year to grab a bargain airfare.
Tenerife has long been a favourite for visitors seeking a good value, last-minute escape to a warm and sunny paradise, and Santa Cruz de La Palma is the gateway to it all. Located off the west coast of Morocco, the volcanic island of Tenerife is famed for world class beaches, breathtaking scenery and a culture that can be both relaxing and robust. Keeping it all together is the island’s capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Although not among Tenerife’s major attractions, the largest city in all of the Canary Islands is certainly worth a visit. Known to the locals as Santa Cruz, the city has been a place of beauty ever since it was founded. Eye-catching classical and romantic style buildings characterise the meandering streets of the old town, the Teatro Guimerá a perfect example of this venerable period in the city’s history. Other remarkable sights include the building of the Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre (its collection is also well worth exploring), the Iglesia de la Concepción and Mercado Nuestra Señora de África.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, be sure to visit the Parque Marítimo César Manrique and enjoy the restaurants, hot springs and public swimming pools, before going on to explore the botanical wonder that is the Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Looking further afield, perhaps spend some downtime on the fabulous Playa de Las Teresitas beach, or visit the utterly beautiful old city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, just to the north of Santa Cruz. Lastly, but by very no means least, be sure to visit Teide National Park, site of Spain's highest mountain, before making your way to the sea to marvel at the Teno Massif, aka, The Cliffs of the Giants.
