Cheap Flights to Shiraz

Shiraz overview

When is the best time to fly to Shiraz?

Summers in the south of Iran tend to be very hot and temperatures peak at around 38 degrees Celsius during July, which is the hottest month. Rainfall is also at a minimum during the summer season. The heat can make sightseeing uncomfortable for some but if this doesn’t bother you it can be a great time to visit. Winters in Shiraz can also be quite pleasant climate-wise, as high temperatures sit in the low teens, although it can dip to just below freezing and there is an increase in rain. Travel in December and January to avoid the more expensive peak time and to take advantage of lower hotel rates and cheaper flights to Shiraz.

The peak months are April and May, and September and October, which fall in between summer and winter. Cheap flights to Shiraz will be harder to find but once you land you will reap the benefits of the best weather - lower temperatures than summer and less rainfall than winter.

Shiraz overview

The capital of the beautiful Fars province, Shiraz is home to one of the most fascinating historical sites in the world: Persepolis. Travellers book flights to Shiraz for this reason alone, but there is much more to see. Persepolis was the mighty city of the Achaemenids, kings of Persia. The ancient ruins of the city of Persepolis are a highlight of any holiday to Shiraz, and there are plenty of guided tours on offer which will give you a great day out here. There are several stunning mosques in this city too, and perhaps the most renowned of these edifices is the Shah-e-Cheragh Shrine. A key cultural site of interest in Shiraz is the tomb of the poet Hafez. The Tomb of Hafez is located within some very elegant and well maintained gardens, and there are some lovely places to eat nearby too, so you can make a day of it if you choose to visit this attraction. Many of the museums and historical exhibits relate to the ancient past of the city, and they are all absolutely fascinating. Make sure to visit the Afif-Abad Garden and the Stone Museum. The Vakil Bath gives you a real insight into the way in which people used to live in the Shiraz region many centuries ago. The bath is located next to the Bazaar Vakil, too, so you can pick up some souvenirs to take home after your visit.

Getting around Shiraz

As well as taxis, Shiraz has a good network of coaches and buses, many of them tour buses which will take you to key sights like Persepolis. The railway station connects you with the rest of Iran, so the city is also a good base from which to explore further afield in the country. A metro system is currently being built in the city, too, which will have three lines and over 30 stations: so public transport in this historic city is set to get even better.

Getting from the Airport to the City

After a flight to Shiraz International Airport (SYZ) the best way to reach the town centre is by a yellow airport taxi which will take you for a fixed price. This is a small airport, and there is no bus service from the airport to the centre. Many visitors also opt to hire cars when they visit and some companies provide you with the option of collecting your car at the airport.
