Ajaccio can be visited year-round thanks to a fairly mild climate. The busiest time to visit is from June through September when the weather is sunny and warm, however it will be difficult to find cheap flights to Ajaccio during these months. November through March can see more rainfall than other parts of the year, but not so much that it should deter visitors. You’re more likely to find better deals on flights and hotels during low season (November-March, excluding Christmas), and shoulder season of April and May, and September and October.
Ajaccio is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and August 15 is when the city celebrates his birth with the popular festival Fètes Napoléoniennes, so anyone who is a Napoleon fan should consider booking flights to Ajaccio around that time to join in the celebrations and soak up the lively atmosphere. The best way to get around Ajaccio is on foot. You can also rent a scooter or bicycle, which is a good option if you want to check out beaches outside of the city. For those travelling to other areas of Corsica, renting a car is often the best option since bus service can be sporadic outside of peak season and a car will be more convenient.
Once your flight to Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport (AJA) lands you will find yourself located just 3 miles (5 kilometres) from the city centre, which is about 10 minutes by car or taxi depending on traffic, or 20 minutes by bus. Car rental counters can be found in the airport arrivals hall, and taxis are in front of the terminal exit. There is also a frequent bus that goes from the airport into the city. For exact times visit the airport information centre, which can also answer any questions about taxis, baggage, or car rentals.
