Cheap Car Hire in Fresno

We accidently reserved the car at the off site location at 2110 Ventura Street approx 10 mi from the Fresno airport instead of the Fresno airport location. The Fresno airport location would not transfer the reservation for the same price. They wanted us to cancel the Ventura Street reservation and rebook through them for an additional $400. We declined and ordered an Uber ride (all 5 of us and our luggage) to the Ventura St location. While waiting for the Uber, I called ahead to the Ventura St lcation to make sure they had a car for us. They told me they had a car for us but not an SUV that we reserved and needed for our party size and luggage. They told us they could transfer the reservation to the Fresno airport location where an SUV was available!! I explained what I was told at by Fresno airport location representative and then was instructed to come to the Ventura St location and they would have an SUV ready for us. When we arrived at the Ventura St location, they did have the SUV because they had a staff runner pick up the car from the Fresno airport location and drove it to the Ventura St location. It was a huge waste of time and an extra expense. Horrible customer service!!!!!

Vehicle drove well. Unfortunately the “Maintenance Required” warning came in within 40 miles and that caused me concern for the next 5 days.

Long wait in line. Didn't get the vehicle I wanted. But it was fine. Process was good.

There were surprise charges when I actually rented the car. I wanted a compact car but only an economy was available. With high gas prices, that caused additional costs I didn't expect. I pre-paid for gas soil I wouldn't have to worry about returning the car with gas. The charge on the final bill was more than the charge I was given on the contract.

The process was very quick and easy. The price was great too and I loved having unlimited miles! I enjoyed the car so much! Thank you!

The car I was given was not similar to the one I chose to rent. It was very uncomfortable. At check in there was no one there to get the keys and finalize the rental. I had to go all the way back in the airport to the counter and wait for other people that were just renting. There should be a counter outside like the other companies or a window for only check ins. It should be a Quicker process to drop off cars.

The car had great amenities and was fun to drive. However, the gas mileage was lower than most cars I've rented. VWs are probably not the best car to rent for that class as people are often looking for gas efficiency from a compact. Also, the car was rented to me with a very strong cannabis smoke smell, which we ultimately had to purchase our own car odor eliminators to combat during our time with the car. I expect Payless to enforce an additional cleaning fee to renters who return a car with any smoking/vaping odors. And then of course Payless must use that fee to take measures to actually remove the odor from the vehicle before renting it. Air it out, apply odor-removing treatments, etc.

Armada sounded like a bus taking off: I ordered a GMC Yukon got a very uncomfortable Armada. Will not rent from Hertz again.

Reservation for car was 12 noon and they were closed

Even though I arrived after pick-up time, I was asked to wait 30 minutes for the car to be cleaned. No one ever told me when it was finished. When I wandered out to try and find my car by myself, I found a car that wasn't clear if it had been cleaned or not, due to powder in the interior and fingerprints & smudges all over the navigation screen. The windshield was also cracked but this wasn't mentioned & I had to spend time on the phone with customer service to make sure it would be noted on the rental, would be safe to drive, and wouldn't be held against me. Poor service (when any at present at all) throughout process. Would not use Avis again.

Car broke down about an hour into my trip. Horrible experience
