After reserving my car, taking a train from Fort Lauderdale to Miami so I could pick up a car and drive 4 hours to my flight in Orlando, then waiting an hour in line at Budget, I was told that I would need to use a credit card rather than my debit card because I "didn't pass a soft credit check." This was not apparent when I made the reservation. Missed my flight. The guy at the desk I talked to was cold and unhelpful.

Rental facility is a very long walk and tram ride from Terminal. Dragging luggage that far is difficult for older travelers.

Hidden costs compared to the quote mentioned on Kayak Hidden costs included over $40 in taxes (federal and state), as well as a requirement to pay to protect the car despite buying car protection on kayak. The original price was quoted on kayak to be $90 and the actual price was closer to $150

At the time of pickup at the counter, I had to wait 45 minutes before speaking with an agent. At that time, no changes were made, but they did something to make it seem like I had made a change. It changed my bill from the estimate $129 to $439. When I fought the increase, they kept trying to say I was being charged for dropping off at a different location as if that was something they didn't know when I made the reservation. It was clearly a scam and it was clearly the M.O. of the agent and support team to rip people off. Once I showed them all the original paperwork with the original estimates, they agreed to remove the $300 inter-city drop off fee, but the taxes were way higher, so ultimately I was charged $55 over the reservation price. They are in the business of ripping people off and should probably be charged with fraudulent business practices.

I Do not have a credit card but had called prior to see if I could use a debit and they said I could with a higher deposit. However, when I got there, they said I could not use a debit for the larger van I had rented so had to have the people we were with use their card. They should have told me that when I called since they knew what vehicle I was getting.

Had to wait an hour and a half for a car. It wasn’t clean. It needed maintenance. Was charged significantly higher than the reservation. When I called Thrifty about that, they said I had to deal with it at the airport. There was a line of more than 25 people at the airport & I had a flight to catch. Horrible experience.
