If you're looking for flights to the Solomon Islands, you will generally find that flights from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport to the capital Honiara's Henderson International Airport will take around 28h, mostly due to stopovers. If you're looking for the Solomon Islands flight deals from Cape Town, it's most likely going to take 32h to get to Henderson International Airport, again mostly because of stopovers in different countries. Should you want to fly to Munda from Johannesburg, your journey will most likely take you about 32h, while if you want cheap flights to the Solomon Islands' Munda from Cape Town, then you're going to have to travel for about 34h, give or take some time, depending on how your stopovers go.
Unfortunately, direct flights from South Africa to the Solomon Islands are not currently available. If you are flying from Johannesburg, you are going to have stopovers in Singapore International Airport and Port Moresby International Airport in Papua New Guinea. If you are flying from Cape Town, you will have to stop in Johannesburg before stopping at Singapore International Airport and Port Moresby International Airport.
There is little consistent or reliable public transport outside the capital city of Honiara, which has a limited bus transit system. A good idea would be to hire a car when you arrive at the airport, which can be done with just an international driving licence. You can also organise taxis in the capital, but it is much safer to do so from your hotel than it is to hail one in the street. Hiring a car makes a lot of sense, because the size of the small island means it's quite easy to navigate. Do be careful though, as the road quality outside the capital can be fairly poor, which means that caution is a good idea when driving.
The beautiful beaches around the peninsula are a major draw for anyone looking to visit the Solomon Islands. Kennedy Island is a gorgeous natural island off the coast that has beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue oceans. You could also check out the Honiara Central Market and learn about the culture and cuisine of the people of the Solomon Islands. Every July, festivals are held to celebrate the Solomon Islands Independence Day. You can check out the parades and festivals that happen to celebrate the Solomon Island history. Make sure you book your hotel in advance if you plan on staying in Honiara, as the capital tends to get quite busy around this time.
